Sunny’s name could not have been more fitting.

Even after everything he endured, he still radiated warmth.

Sunny came to Blake’s Buddies Rescue from animal control with severe third-degree burns across his body and down his leg. We may never know what happened to him. A torch? Hot oil? Boiling water? The truth is, we do not know.

What we do know is that Sunny was in pain — and still chose love.

Heartbreaking does not even begin to describe it. But inspiring? Absolutely.

Despite the trauma he experienced, Sunny remained gentle, trusting, and full of affection. He loved people. He welcomed kindness. Somehow, after all he had been through, he still believed in humans.

This is why Blake’s Buddies Rescue says yes to medical dogs when we can. Because they feel. They forgive. They fight to live. And when funds are available, we believe they deserve the chance to heal.

Medical cases are never easy. They are emotional, unpredictable, and expensive. Sometimes what starts as a few hundred dollars in care can quickly become thousands. But if we never take the chance, we never get to see what healing, hope, and love can do.

Sunny’s family saw him for who he truly was. Not for the wounds on his body. Not for the pain he endured. They saw the love bug underneath it all — the gentle soul who wanted nothing more than to be safe, loved, and home.

And that is exactly where he is now.

Sunny is safe. Sunny is healing. Sunny is home.
